Critical thinking

What is Critical Thinking?

Critical thinking is the ability to think clearly and rationally, understanding the logical connection between ideas.  Critical thinking has been the subject of much debate and thought since the time of early Greek philosophers such as Plato and Socrates and has continued to be a subject of discussion into the modern age, for example the ability to recognise fake news.
Critical thinking might be described as the ability to engage in reflective and independent thinking.
In essence, critical thinking requires you to use your ability to reason. It is about being an active learner rather than a passive recipient of information.
Critical thinkers rigorously question ideas and assumptions rather than accepting them at face value. They will always seek to determine whether the ideas, arguments and findings represent the entire picture and are open to finding that they do not.
Critical thinkers will identify, analyse and solve problems systematically rather than by intuition or instinct.

Someone with critical thinking skills can:

  • Understand the links between ideas.
  • Determine the importance and relevance of arguments and ideas.
  • Recognise, build and appraise arguments.
  • Identify inconsistencies and errors in reasoning.
  • Approach problems in a consistent and systematic way.
  • Reflect on the justification of their own assumptions, beliefs and values.
Critical thinking is thinking about things in certain ways so as to arrive at the best possible solution in the circumstances that the thinker is aware of. In more everyday language, it is a way of thinking about whatever is presently occupying your mind so that you come to the best possible conclusion.
On the other hand, the good news is that, since our critical thinking ability varies according to our current mindset, most of the time we can learn to improve our critical thinking ability by developing certain routine activities and applying them to all problems that present themselves.

IMPORTANCE OF ASSIGNMENTS

IMPORTANCE OF ASSIGNMENTS AT THE SCHOOL AND COLLEGE LEVEL

The main purpose of assignments is to increase the learning capabilities of students. The more we use our brains, the more they develop. This is a proven scientific fact and this is the principle behind giving extremely creative and involving assignments to the students. Students learn a lot more when they read or practice something by themselves.

Similarly, the purpose of assignments is to increase the practical skills of students. Subjects like Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry and similar science subjects require practice constantly. The more you practice the better you get. Assignments help in the practice process; it’s like doing the experiments to discover new possibilities.
Some students have goals in life while others just want the degree. For both types, doing the assignments is equally important because it will help in the practical examination like theses or research papers as well as in theoretical examinations. Those with high goals are trained by the assignments to work hard and focus on the things that matter the most.

Multiple assignments at one time make students better time managers. They learn to manage the schedule as well as prioritize tasks. This is the key component to succeed in any field of life. Students learn to prioritize on the basis or urgent versus important and become successful not only in the student life, but professional life as well.

So the advantages are endless and the possibilities are many, if one really thinks about it. But the problem is that students don’t like assignments. They want to enjoy their lives to the fullest, which, if they think about, they can do it on their own if they manage their time. Many students instead of trying hard, pay someone to write an essay or do their assignments to have plenty of leisure time for themselves. But, doing the assignments yourself will polish you and will prepare you for the real life after school and college. And those who take it seriously achieve great successes

Interactive PPT and Teaching Experience

Making your presentation more-interesting through the use of multimedia can help to improve the audience's focus. PowerPointallows you to use images, audio and video to have a greater visual impact. These visual and audio cues may also help a presenter be more improvisational and interactive with the audience.PowerPointcan be an effective tool to present material in the classroom and encourage student learning.

As a techer you have to master this method in order to not fail. It has also its importance and it is beyond useful as for the way of teaching and presenting something

While i was i high school it wasn’t that useful, and for more I wasn’t that good at it. Recently i got the chance to practice and doing more project and all it takes me to say is that now i feel like using it perfectly.

This week i had to do a project , but i struggled a little bit. My colleague and I couldn’t find a ‘in good condition laptop’ but we were lucky enough to find a good one.
Anyway, everything went okay, we did some really peculiar moves like creating some exercises with hot potato and we found a really interesting game called as” monsters game”
Everyone was quite excited.

We have to bear in mind that before doing a presentation we should be creative in order to draw someone’s attention, ppt is not that easy as it seems to be but still not that complicated tho’.
As a teacher to be i want my lectures to be delivered through ppt presentation and to put my creativity in it.

Ps. Can’t wait to see what my colleagues are up to. I am curious about what they are going to show off to us.

webinar :)

Another way of learning, another way of being a successful teacher. Are you interested in bringing mindfulness strategies into your everyday teaching routine? I can hear a big Yes from everyone . so here it is another tool- Webinar is a live ,virtual event that is executed online. It gives thew opportunity to learn,as you woud do at an in-person event.

Anyone can participate in a webinar  without leaving work or just they can stay  at home. So no more deep sighs when thinking of the “I have class tomorrow” thing,or when you are not feeling like going to school.

The best part is visualizing the information by showing digital graphs, pictures which make it easier for understandings.  It increases productivity while learning. Using surveys and polls keesp the attendees interested. If somebody is asked a question, they are eagerly wait to see the results and wondering how they compare with the rest.

It is important to be well prepared so you are not stumbling over your words or leaving out key points. PS. make sure to take time to get familiar with all the tools so there are no suprises on the day. Teachers get busy too, and if a student miss a recent webinars, they don’t have to fret! The webinars are recorded and available on demand to fit the busy schedule.

We don’t have to be that addicted to this tool because attendees may lose their interest or even to misapply it because students do want to have a face to face communication and they can have the answers and share ideas on the spot.

The faster a student moves through the content ,the better gains you can expect in the spring.
All  good things J

PBL

What is going on everbody…

Yet that curious for the new topic? Not that much honestly because since the teacher mentioned it during the class I knew what we had to talk about. Anyway just a simple clarification; PBL- engages students in learning that is deep and enduring ,and inspires for them a love of learning and personal connection to their academic experience.

While reading for PBL approach it reminded me of some  projects we used to do at school and I don’t even know why I hated so much tho’-maybe it was a must to present them in front of the class and absolutely it was kind of frustrating, or perhaps we weren’t that motivated enough… Great! Here we comes at the very best part of it,-“challenge”. Students should know its aim, why they are up to putting that approach into work and intentionally studying with everyday activities.

Students are better able to apply what they know to new situations and develop career interests.  They drive each other’s learning in group work. I am really into collaborations. They have to expand their desirable skills which it might be used for their future practice.

In actual fact I  want to be focused on student’s reflection and constructing their own learning with the help of PBL and it  is going to succeed, as it is attuned to what we know now about successful learning. .As we know that learning is very complex dimension and it is very difficult for learner. Many people know that only received the information is knowledge but it is not true because education means how much learner understand the particular phenomenon or content or context.

My role in the future is more like that of a facilitator and coach of student learning, acting at times as a resource person, rather than as knowledge-holder and disseminator.

PBL is one of the strongly recommended teaching methods to integrate the principles of sustainable development into the teaching process at all stages. 21st Century needs Human Capital with both Theoretical and Practical Knowledge and various skills like Team Work,  Leadership, Problem Solving, Creativity etc. This method  is ideal to improve those skills.

Bye all J

Flipped Classroom

New way of active learning, new blog ,new experience…

I know that if learner woud be part of flipped classroom ,they are less likely to become frustrated when watching videos. This technique requires strong motivation from the learners, otherwise they can’t be that successful or they would keep the same level of knowledge.,I think that it might not work that much because it also assumes every student had access to a laptop or good internet access. Last time we were part of the flipped classroom and we were way to confused. It seems to be a short scary movie ,as i mentioned during that class, when we had to post everything on time,as it was required. We were asking each other for further instruction but we couldn’t even help ourselves. It was our first time doing that very thing which I have to admit it that it was the best class  I have ever engaged myself to. And you know what, I want to do that in every subject.

Sometimes flipped classroom works, students move at their own pace, review what they need when they need to. But what if some students can’t learn through screens and yeah, all it takes for me is changing the whole plan. Students learn in different ways no matter what as long as they are interested. Everything its up to technology, but why not taking notes while processing…

What if I decide to record or prerecord the lesson? This might be the best way. Every learner would have the chance to receive the full instruction and the most considerable apart is that they do learn. I do really think a lot about myself on how am I going to teach my students without spending time/energy to keep them quite or even to engage them.I really want my students to be unable to endure the wait and say :’hey this upcoming class is going to be a exciting one !”

I would like to use padlet, its a helpful form of learning ,and all it takes is watching a video, and then students will be able to give their opinions collaborately. I guess its easier for them to watch rather than reading.

What students like more is the quiz,as gamified formative assessment activities, assign these activities as homework, which allows the students to play the games individually. With the help of these tools, teachers can implement a flipped classroom approach—with students working on their own either at home or in the classroom—and provide a more individualized learning experience for all of their students.

Its okay to not know, but it is not okay to not try. So why not give your best for your students???

Looking forward for the next topic!

Constructivism and cooperative learning.

Constructivism and cooperative learning.

Another interesting topic to engage myself in. A really well known word, and since I was In touched with that I knew it was all about the process of learning. So, constructivism is basically a theory based on observation and scientific study, about how people learn, it says that people construct  their own understandings and knowledge of the world, through experiencing things and reflecting on those experiences.

The constructivist teacher provides tools such as a problem solving and inquiry based learning activities with students formulate and test their ideas. Teachers should encourage and helping them to construct their knowledge rather than reproducing. Back in time all I knew was learning things by heart, and this is the worst that can happens to any of us, since in a way we were forced to not express what we were actually thinking especially in literature. So,apperantly we must not do the same with our future students.  If the teacher does not act like a facilitator like helping us with the smallest thing around in the process of learning we wouldn’t formulate knowledge ideas or understandings.

Constructivism transforms students into an active participant in the learning process. They are urged to be actively involved in their own process of learning. Teachers functions more as an organizer who prompts and helps students develop and assess their learning. LEARNING IS BUILD ON WHAT THE STUDENTS ALREADY KNOWS,better say, their mind are always active. Learning happens best when it is done in a way that it is practical ,relevant and engaging rather than theoretical, and that learning happens everywhere, anytime.

Before starting the new lesson the students should be asked about the previous lesson if they had any of the difficulties or uncertainties and if so we better not avoid that and start to explain the lesson again or otherwise they would be so into confusion.

I will put my students in charge of trying things that doesn’t work. I don’t like the fact that the traditional teachers make them to work like robots. If students feel free to reflect on their experience they can control their  own learning and we as teacher should create a situation where our students feel safe questioning and reflecting on their own processes, either privately or in group discussions.
How can students make their own judgements? This can be succeeded by a discussions based on the questions that teachers are up to. As for the learning activities ,it requires the students’ full participation cooperative learning and based on my personal experience I am really good at collaborating with my colleagues.

As a modern educator to be I hope I will succeed in what I have planned for my future students.

I wish that my blog was wothy enough!
Say whatever positive things that come into your mind... :)

Multiple intelligences and multimedia

                 Multiple intelligences and multimedia

It was a good start, and it hooked me into some sort of interest. It also made me reflect on what I have accomplished so far. After reading the lecture made me to update my way of thinking and made me to think of my “how to motivate my future students” list. According to Gardner everyone possesses these multiple intelligences or simply put ,students and teachers has different abilities ,they do understand the others, they do know themselves and they might be able to make something valuable for the teaching part using their body/mind. Many teachers have had the experience of not being able to reach some students until presenting the information in a completely different way or providing new options for student expression. Perhaps it was a student who struggled with writing until the teacher provided the option to create a graphic story, which blossomed into a beautiful and complex narrative. The theory of multiple intelligences challenges the idea of a single IQ, where human beings have one central "computer" where intelligence is housed

It is useful to think about the different ways that information can be presented. However, it is critical to not classify students as being specific types of learners nor as having an inborn or fixed type of intelligence. It is important to use multimedia because we do learn and apply real-world skills, students work collaboratively, they receive new information which is not part of the traditional teaching methods and considerably they do develop the presentation and speaking skills. As a “to be” teacher I would use all the media forms just to draw their attention and make them to find my work fascinating for what I have created.

The implements of the multimedia in teaching is essential ,and it is changing the ways of learning itself. Besides it contains various elements such as text, graphic, sound and video and with the implementation of its elements student will be more motivated,if not it will be a primary reason for high student dropout rates as a lack of encouragement. Out of the ordinary, with the help of the new technology we have been developing our natural or fixed type of intelligence unwillingly.

Multimedia technology effects both aspect of teaching and learning, starting with the developing media literacy skills that involve critically analyzing the use of the technology and the information derived from them.what should be underlined is the oppurtinity to work in partnership that is provided by MM.

Finally,it may be concluded that learning should be meaningful.Multimedia is the only format to date that can monitor growth in all of the intelligences that Gardner has identified.MM increases student’s achievement and motivation. The theory of multiple intelligences implies that our teaching should be able to develop as much as possible students’ different potentials in their intelligences, giving everyone the chance to demonstrate and use their potentials to the fullest possible. As a result the technology, teachers and learner will be in the absolute control.

Hope you find it pleasant and practical.
Thanks!

Hi everyone This is my presentation
